i tried ubuntu 12 , these few last days with a computer made by HP : a Touchsmart .
the os install was quite quick and os seems working , gnome 3 is as bad as it always be , problem i want to talk and show is the touch one .
if you read french , have look at these 2 links :
the second being more recent , there is a big change : a new driver "nwFermi" and most of the previous text is removed
both says to install xserver-xorg-input-evtouch ...
if you read this page : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EloTouchScreen
then you learn this driver is dead until 11.04 ...so a year now ...
and for the first time xserver-xorg-input-elographics that a setting to found : "Note: edit the Device value (/dev/ttyUSB0) to match the input device name the touch-screen input has."
this package is existing with u12.04 but does not work , may be because i have no idea about the ttyusb0 [there are none in the /dev]
i tried nwfermi : https://launchpad.net/nwfermi
but it requires a little driver that is not up-to-date : https://bugs.launchpad.net/nwfermi/+bug/977255
the last release was for previous u11.10 ....
so this is it : Xmas ubuntu , build some os without drivers ....[may be the only manner of having something stable...every 6 month..??]
or try to set a standard for them to live long ....
may be you ll have "customers"
