  • ATI 12.4 driver -> BigDesktop -> RandR?

    Hi,

    I've just installed Ubuntu 12.04 and followed the instructions on this wiki page for the getting the Ubuntu packaged ATI driver which is meant to be equivalent to 12.4 up and running ->

    I've got 3 monitors attached to a Radeon HD 6970 and would like to configure them as one single display (at this stage I'd settle for two). According to the wiki page (and the warnings from the 'amdconfig' command) you need to disable RandR for BigDesktop to work.

    I've tried disabling RandR via the suggested command ->

    Code:
    sudo amdconfig --set-pcs-str="DDX,EnableRandR12,FALSE"
    aswell as putting the following in the device section of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file ->

    Code:
    Option    "EnableRandR12" "false"
    Neither of which seemed to have any effect. I was expecting that this would then give me an option in the 'amdcccle' gui util to choose 'BigDesktop'. I've also tried configuring my xorg.conf file with a BigDesktop setup manually but again these instructions seem to be ignored because 'RandR' is still enabled.

    Any ideas? Can anyone confirm if disabling RandR is still required and if so how they managed to do it.
