Phoronix: Linux 3.4-rc5: Annoying, But Not Hugely Scary

The Linux 3.4-rc5 kernel was released on Sunday with an increased number of changes over its predecessor, which Linus Torvalds describes as annoying, but it shouldn't be "hugely scary" for those testing it out...

I think they should get their asses in gear for efi support. within a few months EFI devices will flood the market and its support still blows donkey chucks.

Another EFI point, though this one reflects more on the incompetence of Canonical:
=== RELEASE NOTES TEXT === * Some EFI systems fail to boot in EFI mode, BIOS mode is advised in these situations. (Bug:721576) === Call trace seems to show this is related to EFI, it happens every time on reboot with 2.6.38-1 and 2.6.38-4 see attached images. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: linux-image (not installed) Regression: No Reproducible: Yes ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-4.31-generic 2.6.38-rc5 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-4-generic x86_64 AlsaVersion: Advanced...

Kernel panic on reboot with EFI. Canonical adds a mention of that in the release notes, and because of that *marks the bug as fixed*. Way to go.

The bug was only marked fixed under the Ubuntu Release Notes task. It is still open for the kernel.
