    Hurray!!!!! Multiple node support for GPGPU computing will get into the kernel!!!!! This will massively improve performance!!!!!

      Cool.

      So if it works, combined with recent work in pulseaudio, you'll be able to plug in two monitors to one GPU, plug in two USB sound cards, plug in two keyboards and mice, and somehow be able to map them out correctly so that each user has dedicated control over the resources they have physical access to?

      With a GUI?

      Would be a dream come true for libraries, dormitories, computer labs, etc. One expensive box with 12 USB ports and a FireGL card (or any DisplayPort card that supports a DP Hub, which would be most) could end up being cheaper than buying a whole bunch of mid-grade boxes. The peripheral cost would be the same.

        Yes, this is really cool. I'm currently running a multi-seat setup with two dedicated graphics cards, but since my motherboard only has one PCIe slot, the second seat (running off a PCI card) is very slow. I'd love to replace the both cards with one beefy PCIe one.

            Ubuntu/Debian-based multiseat computers that have multiple seats per GPU already exist now: http://multiseatcomputer.be/en/
            This uses nested X servers instead of this new (and probably more performant?) technique from the article.

            (As you can see, electric power cost is an important cost difference too.)

              Just a thought, wouldn't one beefy server + ARM thin clients be even better than a couple multiseat boxes? Easier to set up, less power use, and less expensive assuming you were getting more than one box.

                You can't really use OpenGL & such with thin clients (yes, you can play 3D games against each other on some multiseats ), but thin clients have the advantage that the "seats" don't have to be close to the computer (multiseats are limited by the max. allowed length for USB cables (which can be extended a bit with a powered hub).
