    Hi,
I've been having the same problems.
I have a ThinkPad R40 with 7500 R100 series video card and a Samsung SuncMaster 216BW. The images that were posted up above illustrate my exact problem, however when using the xrandr --output LVDS --off command it resizes the screen and hides about 1/4 of it on the right hand site. Another words the entire area under the date and time which usually shows up in the top right hand corner of the screen is not visible at all. BTW I am trying to get 1680x1050 resolution working, all others seem to be working.

Please help, I've spent over 3 days on this and can't get this working.

The bios touches the HW behind the drivers back in some cases. I fixed those issues in newer versions of the driver. 6.7.196 should have the fixes, but you might want to try git master for the latest and greatest.

The monitor is probably running at the same res as the internal panel. Does this help (replace VGA-0 with DVI-0 if you are using the DVI port)?

      xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1680x1050

running xrandr by itself will show you what outputs are connected and what modes they support. Beyond that, I really need to see your log and config.
