Phoronix: Genode OS Gets An Ambitious 2012 Roadmap

Genode OS, one of the interesting non-Linux-based operating systems that is built on a unique framework architecture and is striving to make a general purpose OS, has shared a new project road-map...

Phoronix, Linux Hardware Reviews, Linux hardware benchmarks, Linux server benchmarks, Linux benchmarking, Desktop Linux, Linux performance, Open Source graphics, Linux How To, Ubuntu benchmarks, Ubuntu hardware, Phoronix Test Suite

Genode, and other non-mainstream OSes like it, are necessary When the day comes that everybody has a Linux-based phone and a Linux-based desktop, most Linux-based OSes will be locked down and controlled by the big corps and media cartels. When that time comes, we need to have a semi-viable alternative that's about as viable as Linux was when it first started to compete with Windows, so the early adopters can follow the fad and jump to a new, incomplete platform and resume whining about missing drivers and hardware support.

And you think, that you can still buy a general purpose computer by then? A device that runs all code you want?
