  • RadeonHD and ATI Mobility X1600

    Hi all,

I just tried to use the radeonhd driver with a Mobility Radeon X1600 but I can't get it to work. I followed the guide on

    http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...item=843&num=1

and removed the "Monitor" section of my xorg.conf but X always starts with the vesa driver.

Trying "cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep radeonhd" gives nothing.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

I did a fresh install and X couldn't even start last Sunday.

How come one day it works, the other day it doesn't?

If you post some more info (log messages etc.) either here or on the radeonhd mailing list ([email protected], archive at lists.opensuse.org/radeonhd) someone will probably be able to help. I think you need to subscribe to the radeonhd list before posting, not 100% sure.

I had exactly the opposite...the driver worked after a fresh install.

I'm on an Acer TM8204 laptop with ATI Mobility RADEON X1600. When I try to run X with radeonhd, it fails and the logs say:

Your card should be supported. I'm not sure if that exact message is still in the code, but I *think* it has been changed recently now that the driver pulls all the connector information from AtomBIOS for most systems.

How recent is the code you are running ? There have been a lot of important changes in the last few days.

Did the driver work for you other than the log message ? If not there are probably other error messages, typically down near the end of the log. If the latest driver code is not working for you, can you paste the full log into an email and send it (along with description of symptoms) to the radeonhd mailing list ? You can post the full log here as well or just let us know when it's working for you.

I tried some weeks ago on the same laptop and the radeonhd driver worked.
