  • HP dv6z Quad - AMD A8-3530MX APU

So I got this laptop expecting the turbocore feature to work, but my clock doesn't go pass 1.9Ghz.

I'm pretty sure Turbocore was advertised for this laptop.

    I have kernel 3.0
    Code:
    cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/bios_limit
    1900000
This shows up on my dmesg
    Code:
    [ 7.029158] powernow-k8: Found 1 AMD A8-3530MX APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics (4 cpu cores) (version 2.20.00)
    [ 7.029440] powernow-k8: Core Performance Boosting: on.
    [ 7.029662] powernow-k8: 0 : pstate 0 (1900 MHz)
    [ 7.029862] powernow-k8: 1 : pstate 1 (1700 MHz)
    [ 7.030015] powernow-k8: 2 : pstate 2 (1600 MHz)
    [ 7.030169] powernow-k8: 3 : pstate 3 (1400 MHz)
    [ 7.030322] powernow-k8: 4 : pstate 4 (1200 MHz)
    [ 7.030476] powernow-k8: 5 : pstate 5 (1000 MHz)
    [ 7.030630] powernow-k8: 6 : pstate 6 (800 MHz)
Anyone know if this is in fact a BIOS limitation or a linux limitation?

The Windows reviews say it can't be detected from Windows either with standard tools, that it toggles on and off very fast.

If you have a bios toggle for it, try benchmarking it on and off.

Unfortunately, I don't have a BIOS option for that.. The BIOS (insyde) doesn't really allow many changes other than boot order and date/time.

A guy on the anandtech forums was able to get his cores to turbo just by moving some windows around.
