  • 8.42.3 X1600 Pro AGP 512MB problem

I installed the driver today via generating and installing the correct .deb packages.

The kernel module is loaded and X seems to start fine with fglrx as the driver in xorg.conf but when i enter my username and password and try to login (GDM) to any WM (gnome, fluxbox, xgl) it freezes on just the background for about 10 seconds, restarts X then stays on a black screen.

    Some diagnostic information:

Log of the first Xorg start:

I get the same issue with the same card... maybe it has something to do with the chipset on the mbo?!
Mine has nforce2, what about yours?

(EE) fglrx(0): Failed to enable interrupts.

Also I never get to login screen and monitor acts like it has no input but I'm able to switch to a console...

hm... this morning, before I went to my yob, I unplugged my TV from the computer and the login window showed up...

I was able to log in!!!

Havent tested it much but opengl seems to work... no graphic corruption or anything else...

I have the same problem. My card is a X1600 Pro AGP 256mb, core 2 duo processor, mobo with intel chipset.
When I execute X, my screen goes blank...

              unplugging tv cable definetly helped...
Do the rest of you also have TV connection?

I've anabled compiz fuzion and that works even though it's sloooow... so reverted to simple desktop

It's probably not chipset based then.

              Good luck

I'm very disappointed with ATI on Linux.
The driver only works with TV cable disconnected. After the cable disconnection and Xorg configuration, Compiz doesn't work for me... I don't know if the guilty is Compiz, ATI or Xorg. But the fact is: the 8.42.3 is useless, at least for me.
I can use Compiz with a onboard Intel i810, and not with my X1600. Thanks to ATI's "professional" service.

                  I'm downgrading to 8.40.4. I hope that 8.42.3 is just a "beta".

TV cable connected or not, the error message "Failed to enable interrupts" remains.
