Switching between fglrx and intel without PowerXpress?

Quick question. We all know it's possible to switch between the ATI driver and the Intel driver if you have a PowerXpress laptop that has a discrete ATI card and an on-board Intel IGP. Does the same also hold for non-laptops? i.e. will it be possible to switch between the Intel IGP and the discrete ATI card on my desktop system, using the binary driver?
