Phoronix: AMD Catalyst 11.7 Driver For Linux Brings...

As has been pointed out in the forums, the AMD Catalyst 11.7 Linux driver for Radeon and FirePro graphics hardware has been released this morning. What new features does this proprietary driver bring?..

I stopped using Catalyst drivers on Linux about two weeks ago, i had ONLY one problem with that but it was a big one, anyone had the lower right corner freezes ? Then you all know this damn thing makes it almost impossible to use for example a system tray in KDE... Besides that one problem i had none. Now i switched to open source radeon and it's a breeze, everything works just fine, no weird lower right corner glitches, proper performance (not that good as in catalyst but i don't game much so no biggie for me). All in all the hell with catalyst...

The problem is that it has already been reported :/

I could probably use the version 11.5 which had an unofficial fix for that damn invisible logo causing freezes but i don't bother anymore.

It's nice to see Linux 3.0 Kernel support so quickly after its release. I hope it's not just a matter of luck, and that AMD will continue to catch up with that.

Yes several of us have the lower right corner freeze up bug. Sounds like it is still present in 11.7.

It's been reported by someone else already so there was no need to file a duplicate bug report. I've read somewhere that this was supposedly fixed but well... Besides that i had no problems with catalyst.
