  • Tearing in xv on a HD3000 system

    Hi there,

    I experience tearing in videos using the xv output and also in flash videos but everything is fine using the gl output with mplayer. Many iptv players don't allow the user to use any other video output than xv.

    My system relies on an i2500k with an asus P8H67-M Pro (rev B3). I installed a kubuntu 11.04 (64-bit version). My screen consists in a sony tv connected to the hdmi output.

    uname -a
    2.6.38-8-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 11 03:31:24 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64
    x86_64 GNU/Linux

    The desktop effects of KDE are disabled otherwise plasma crashes at the end
    of any video playback in mplayer.

    The content of the file ~/.kde/share/config/kwinrc is as follow:

    [Compositing]
    AnimationSpeed=3
    Backend=OpenGL
    DisableChecks=false
    Enabled=false
    GLDirect=true
    GLMode=TFP
    GLTextureFilter=2
    GLVSync=false
    HiddenPreviews=5
    OpenGLIsUnsafe=false
    UnredirectFullscreen=true
    XRenderSmoothScale=false
    grep

    I tried updating my video stack
    (2:2.15.0+git20110531.340cfb7f-0ubuntu0sarvatt2~natty) but it didn't change anything.

    My xorg.conf is empty.

    Does anyone experience tearing in xv even when compositing is disabled? Did anyone try the triple buffering? Any solution in mind?

    Except in the link below i couldn't find many references to this issue:

    I can also add that there is tearing when I use smplayer as a frontend to mplayer (and no tearing when executed from a konsole)...

    No feedback from anyone?
