  • Display slow and jerky with Natty and 11.4, 11.5 Catalyst

Hi, I am trying to get the Catalyst drivers working properly with Ubuntu 11.04 Natty. So far I haven't any luck. I used both 11.4 and 11.5 versions of fglrx, anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Andrew

What do you mean by "slow"?

When I installed Natty, I needed to change compiz configuration to make the environment smother.

I went to opengl options inside compizconfig-settings-manager and I unchecked all, leaving texture filter as fast.

Turn "sync to vblank" off in ccsm. Its enabled by default in natty and seems to cause speed issues with ati cards (especially when moving windows). That setting doesn't even work with fglrx anyway (and you just use tear free desktop in ccc for vsync)

I think that's a go, I have been looking for the place where I could change the vsync values but I couldn't exactly find them... off to do some more exploring in ccsm. Thanks!

Turning off sync to vblank really improves the performance a lot. It should be the default when the Catalyst is being used.
