  • Hi,

    So I installed the Oibaf drivers (did apt-get dist-upgrade). But I have issues, can't run Dota2 per example, it says me to install S3TC texture support.

    * Linux Mint 16 KDE (64b)
    * Installed Trusty kernel, 3.14
    * APU A6-HD8400

    glxinfo:

    Code:
    OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc.
    OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.4, 128 bits)
    OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 10.2.0-devel (git-5d0b3ec saucy-oibaf-ppa)
    OpenGL shading language version string: 1.30
    OpenGL context flags: (none)
    OpenGL extensions:
    What I have in xorg.conf:

    Code:
    Section "Module"
            Load  "glx"
    Is that info right?

      Is it saying something like this? "Required OpenGL extension "GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc" is not supported. Please install S3TC texture support."

      I'm not sure if this is solved specificallu by installing the 64/32bit version but you can get that with

      Code:
      sudo apt-get install libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0
      and/or
      Code:
      sudo apt-get install libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0:i386
      It won't hurt to do both really, but something tells me it's the 32bit you probably want if steam focuses on using 32bit libraries for the time being.

        I'm almost positive you don't have hardware-acceleration going on (VMware and using llvmpipe). I had the same results whenever glamor broke due to some update on my 7850.

        As for how to fix it, I don't know (not too familiar with that hardware). Perhaps try removing your xorg.conf? Maybe purge the PPA and check glxinfo results afterwards?

          to get you going, put this into the terminal:

            • radeonsi (cape verde, HD 8xxx), does it have opengl 3.3 or not????

              HI/2 all...

              Sorry if this was asked before but i cant find a straight answer anywhere.

              I have a CAPE VERDE Radeon HD 8850m and a intel hd4400.

              im using (k)ubuntu 14.04 nightly updated, with open source drivers for intel/amd and the oibaf ppa.

              Unfortunatelly radeonsi still shows opengl at version 3.1. Depending to whom i ask or search, some sources say radeonsi has 3.3 support and others say it has 3.3 support but not for the HD8xxxx line yet.

              Could airlied or any of the other devs shed some light on this? Does or does not radeonsi support the 7/8xxxx series with opengl 3.3?

              If it DOES support, what is needed to activate it?

              right now i have:

              • is there any reason 9.2.5 is smooth on source games yet 10.2 is juddery and almost half the FPS?

                  Yes, 3.3 is supported on GCN hardware (SI and CI). You need mesa 10.1 and llvm 3.5.

                    I have mesa 10.1 and llvm 3.5 installed. I believe what you mean is that i need to recompile mesa with llvm 3.5, correct? or is enolugh to have just the system library installed?

                    because i do have mesa 10.2 git (from oibaf) and llvm 3.5 installed.

                    mesa:
                    libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64 10.2~git1404100730.55f9bb~gd~t

                    llvm:

                    ii llvm-3.5-dev 1:3.5~svn201651-1ubuntu1 amd64 Modular compiler and toolchain technologies, libraries and headers
                    ii llvm-3.5-runtime 1:3.5~svn201651-1ubuntu1 amd64 Modular compiler and toolchain technologies, IR interpreter
                    ii llvm-3.5-tools 1:3.5~svn201651-1ubuntu1 amd64 Modular compiler and toolchain technologies, tools

                    so my question is, do i need to start begging oibaf to recompile mesa for trusty with llvm 3.5 baked in?

                    thamnks for the answer michael

                      Yes, you need to compile mesa against llvm 3.5. Additionally, you need a version of glxinfo that will properly report core profiles.
