I think you have not tried gnome-shell + catalyst. Please try yourself first and then comment.

yes but I used gnome shell + Catalyst driver shortly. There is a option below System Settings-> Sytem info to enable fallback mode even with 3D acceleration.

I'm not sure, but I think I read a while ago that there are also troubles with Gnome shell if proprietary NVIDIA drivers are used.

hm no, I'm probably wrong there. Just found two short reports of users where it works with proprietary NVIDIA drivers.

Here is the bug report: http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=99

Too bad about catalyst not supporting gnome3 properly.

Anyone have experience on how well PowerXpress works for 11.4 on a PowerXpress-capable notebook? Since Nvidia still isn't doing Optimus on Linux, I may need to consider AMD for next notebook purchase.

Well, maybe attach a screenshot. Also why "radeonhd" driver? Basically radeonhd is dead, only radeon is used now...

Still can't switch to my hd5650, it only recognizes the integrated hd4200 (notebook)
