    Fedora 8 Test 1 looks good

    Fedora 8 Test 1 is released. You can get it at http://torrent.fedoraproject.org/ or with any mirror you like.

    I tested the Fedora 8 Test 1 KDE LiveCD and was already impressed. There are some cosmetic improvements here and there (icons + panel), you don't have to log on with the LiveCD now and the desktop is as polished as with Fedora 7. There will be a lot of work before Fedora 8 is finished but Fedora is getting one of my favourite distributions, let's say the best after Sidux for me. That could change if non-free would supported directly in their repos, I hate it when there are several 3rd party repos, if there would be one, but... I don't like it

    I downloaded it off from a german mirror and seeded the torrent since then. Cool to see you're the only one together with the uploader seeding a public torrent

    Yeah F8T1 is looking great. I'll look to add Fedora 8 support into fglrx 8.41.

      Michael, can you tell me whether Fedora 8 Test 1 (GNOME) uses Compiz or Beryl, please? Because it looks like you're having Compiz installed where the KDE LiveCD ships Beryl which confused me. I guess they're moving to Compiz Fusion before Fedora 8 releases.

        It looked to be Compiz. Both Compiz and Beryl are available through Rawhide (i.e. ftp://alviss.et.tudelft.nl/pub/fedor...i386/os/Fedora)

          I just noticed that when you update Rawhide to the newest packages, you will notice that GTK apps / Gnome has many changes to the visual style. I guess it's coming from the official Gnome 2.20 developments. Looks good to me, but I think there will be some more work going on the visual style in the next weeks.

          I am interested if they can really ship KDE4 as default as they have planned. I hope they succed.
