  • Surround Sound Card with Linux Support?

I read all over the place that Creative Labs is not diligent about Linux support for the X-Fi series (which sounds like ATI's fglrx support - no flaming please!). Therefore, I am looking for a reputable sound card vendor with a solid Linux driver.

I am in process of researching components for a new PC to run Kubuntu. I have a Dolby Digital 5.1 stereo receiver I want to use for my PC or I will just buy a computer speaker system.

-EAX support is preferred to offload the CPU from doing sound processing.
-Analog Devices components are preferred (I try to keep brand loyalty).

Is the future of Linux sound in OSS or ALSA? Will all modern cards be supported by both?

Do I have to worry about new cards and Cedega compatibility?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jared

see if you can find a used audigy4 or 2...your best bet I think...some stores might still have them collecting dust on some shelf, could worth it to shop around.

I put my faith in ALSA.

Most cards will work with both, but for some OSS is the only option or vice versa.
