  • Choosing C2duo motherboard for linux

    Hello,

Our lab want to buy a new PC and run "Red Hat Enterprise Version 4" linux on it, right now we are interested in the "Visionary I6000" system in Canada Computers.
    http://www.canadacomputers.com//inde...5&cid=170 .45

However, we want to ensure that the system is fully compatible with the Red Hat linux. I'v checked with canada computers, the I6000 system come with
    the motherboard,
    Asus P5L-MX Socket 775 Intel? 945G + ICH7 chipset
    http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...&mo delmenu=2

Will this motherboard be fully compatible with the linux I want to run? I have used linux before, can anyone tell me where can I find and what do I need to check for the compatibility information?

    Thanks very much,
    rivet

    Hello,

This motherboard have an 945G chip; its quite 'old' i guess it should be easyly supported by linux kernel now.

You got the ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe WiFi+TV test on the phoronix motherboards test, http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...item=258&num=1

and it got a 9/10 rate by phoronix, i guess the mobo you talk about is quite the same (some stuffs less)

Give a try, or get a board that it has been fully tested.

There is no list of hardware/mobo fully supported at Red Hat Enterprise Version 4 ?
I'm not sure i was helpfull.

    Best.

Thanks for your information. The red hat's website only list some expensive servers/workstations as certified hardware, but we are buying regular home use PCs. I don't know if there are other list.

I just found a OS compatibility list on Asus website, but the one I am looking for is not list among them.

If I find another motherboard that with the same chipset that can support Red Hat linux, does it mean that this motherboard will work fine as well. Do I need to check every component, such as LAN,..., for comptibility issue?

      Thanks,
