  • ubuntu driver ati mobility radeon 3400 series FAIL :(

    Hello

    my laptop: toshiba satellite A300
my graphics card: mobility ati radeon 3400
    ubuntu : 10.10

Fully installed ubuntu formating vista and cannot find the drivers for ubuntu to work.Tried one and went black ,re-installed once more and tried another one which did not work. After re-installing several times ,tried to use envyNG but did not find it in the repositories,so never had the chance to try it actually.

    Any suggestions?Help...!!

    Thank you in advance.

I've (got) a question for you:

    - Are you using the proprietary driver for watching H264/VC1 videos via vaapi / Playing linux games? If you're not, the OS driver will suit your needs at most cases (altough power management is not as good as it's with fglrx).

If you want to install Catalyst in ubuntu 10.10, follow this guide.

    Hope this helps you.

    Cheers

You shouldn't need to install any drivers unless you want to run fglrx/Catalyst for better 3D. Note that VA-API doesn't work with pre-RadeonHD 4k cards. since Catalyst 10-7, and even there, it was not the best.

I prefer this ATI guide (though I contributed to it, so I may be biased): http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu...allation_Guide
