Abysmal 2D/3D performance on ATI RS780M/RS780MN Radeon HD 3200 Graphics
Just curious, why do you say that ? Your reported symptoms seem to be consistent with running the software renderer. After trying a liveCD a good next step might be updating mesa as well. Is your current mesa built with classic or gallium3D support (ie r600 or r600g) ?
