  • ati control panel defaults to clone mode

Hi I am using Ubuntu Dapper LTS (6.06) on a Dell E521 with an ATI x1300 Pro 256mb. I am using the 8.32.5 proprietary driver. The reason I am using this driver is that it is apparently the last one that isn't broken for my current system.

At any rate, everything works fine except the following:

For some reason whenever I look at the ati control center, it is default selecting "clone mode". This is dumb because I only have a single monitor hooked up through DRI.

    Here is my xorg.conf:

    Code:
    # /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
    #
    # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
    # values from the debconf database.
    #
    # Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
    # (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
    #
    # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
    # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
    # package.
    #
    # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
    # again, run the following command:
    # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

I had the same "problem" with these drivers but never experienced a problem.

yeah I'm not really sure it's an issue, but I believe it is slowing down my framerate, so I would prefer not to have the issue at all.

The driver is set to clone by default. It is not a problem, and it does not affect your performance in any way for a single monitor.
