Why have different version numbers, just call them all The waiting game.

For me, AMD/ATI it's over, I'll buy what meets my requirements at the moment of purchase, not something that might do it sometime in the future.

      8.43 "AIGLX support....NOT! edition"
8.44 "the christmas present you won't like edition"

the unlikely relase that will actually incorporate all the stuff we can only dream of - stability and performance - "too little, too late edition"
I laughed out loud when I read this, really awesome

Ah, finally a nice possibility to let out a bit of the frustration... Thank you!

8.39: Not that you might notice any difference
8.40: Actually, we changed a BIG part of the code. Honestly, I swear.
8.41: So who is this Fedora, anyway?
        8.42: I told you I don't know this woman!
8.43: Suse is short for Susanne, right?
8.44: Just leave me alone with your chicks!
8.45: If you are so hip and cool and need all the fancy gimmicks, then why don't you just go and buy a Mac?
        8.46: Hello, anybody still there?
        8:47: Dammit...

Are you describing the driver or the parent company? Might be true in both cases.

                how about ubuntu-ish naming?

                8.39 - absolute atrocity
                8.40 - bad blob
                8.41 - crappy code
                8.42 - deferred debug
                8.43 - elusive errors
8.44 - fluggish fquirrel (okay, i didn't know what to make up here)

                and so on....

I was going for the "I should have gotten an nVidia edition" but someone already sorta beat me to it...

                  "C'monalready edition"
"Are you f-ing kidding me? edition"
