SB700 high temperature problem

    So something seems to be accessing your HD a lot. Try installing and playing with atop.

      Man, this is not because of high HDD usage from some sort of application. I tried to summarize my problem many times but I repeat some part again here:
      1. Bringin the system up using leave CD without mounting any HDD partition, spin downing HDD using hdparm and seeing it to be downed about 45 minutes using hddtemp and mounting one partition after 45 minutes of spinned down to wake it up and finnally running hddtemp will show 50C degree temperature, only 10 degrees reduce is not enough.
      2. and the most important part is that there is similar problem in windows 7 until I install SB7xx AHCI driver for Windows 7 which I found in the GPU driver folder

      The two above terms make me sure that this is a problem handling AHCI part of SB700 chip. I believe this and I'm seeking a way to solve this.

              Before anyone tells me, I tried setting the sata mode from AHCI to IDE : No Change

                I still think you should look at atop, or better yet, powertop.

                  Thanks. It makes sense. I will take a look at it. I think it must be about power management too. SB700 is not only a south-bridge chip, but as far as I know, it's also the SATA controller, USB filter and even the sound card.
                  I remember that I tried the power top. Followed it's all suggestions, it reduced power consumption a bit, except it told me press A to standby sound device or some message like about sound device and every time I pressed A it couldn't turn it off and used to repeat the same message again and again. I could hear a tep sound from laptop speakers but no change in power usage statics in gnome-power-monitor. Also the USB port cannot enumerate high power consumption devices like external Hard Drives. It can enumerate flash disks, blue tooth dangles, etc. but it can't just bring my external hard-drives, which windows 7 is able to only after installing the damned "SB7xx USB Filter" driver.
                  Guys, I'm sure that there's something going on about power management of SB700 chip on linux. Which limits output current of USB filter part of the chip to 100mA and will cause the HDD and the chip itself to get very hot.
                  I will read the link, but any other Ideas?
