  • A question about powerXpress setup for desktop PC

    Good evening!

This is my first post here although I have been reading phoronix and the forum for over a year now.

I was reading a thread on this forum about ati 11.2 and a member mentioned powerXpress. I immediately run aticonfig --help and there really are options for powerXpress.
I am running a 780G mainboard and radeon hd 3870. My monitor has both DIV and analog VGA ports.
I wonder if I should connect this analog VGA port on the monitor to the onboard graphics card (ati 3200) while retaining the DVI connection to the discrete 3870. Then switch to the onboard card and restartx.

I am not at the machine now and can only access it remotely. And the person attending the remote machine has almost no computer knowledge. So I must be carefull.

    Many thanks.

    P.S
Don't know how to edit my post. Is there button for it?

If I had a pcie card at hand I'd give it a try.

I thought powerxpress was only available on the M780G? Might only apply for windows since you have to restart X.

aticonfig at least tells me that it's not supported:
$ aticonfig --pplib-cmd "get fs PowerExpress"
Current information for feature "Power Express" are

      Feature is not supported!
      Feature is not enabled!
Feature is not enabled by default!
      Feature version is 0
