Phoronix: QEMU 0.14 Improves Linux Virtualization

While it was not long ago that QEMU 0.13 was released, QEMU version 0.14 is now available with more improvements to this open-source processor emulator...

    Improved PCI-E support????

Are you thinking what I am thinking?
    Videocard acceleration under guest OS?

No, these two things are not related at all.

Spice will get you acceleration but you need yo install the virtuous drivers.

Hold on, so it is actually possible???
Last time i checked this sort of things - it worked not directly with hardware, but rather with emulation, and not in KVM but in other virtualisation solutions.

If you want to passthrough a graphics card to a guest (for gaming, 3D rendering, etc), you'll need a system supporting Intel VT-d or AMD IOMMU and then use Xen. Passthrough of graphics cards are not supported in KVM.

Spice is an open source virtual desktop solution, which will give you limited graphics acceleration (at least currently) when connecting from a Spice client to a QEMU/KVM Spice-enabled guest.

              why are those not related?

I mean, if PCI-E slot is isolated and passed through to guest system(providing your current video card is not used at the moment, so no conflicts there, which is very achievable, since most mobos today have built in graphic cards), recognized correctly there, it's up to guest to serve video card or any PIC-E device for that matter.

                1. QEMU is an emulator. It emulates devices; CPUs, graphics cards, sound cards, PCIe buses, etc. It has no relation whatsoever to the real hardware you have in your machine below your desk. Improvement to a sound card (or a PCIe bus) in QEMU, means that the emulated device now behaves more like the real thing. It doesn't communicate with your hardware and it doesn't care if you have the actual hardware in your system.
                2. QEMU doesn't support passthrough of PCI devices at all.
                3. Even the KVM-modifed version of QEMU, which does PCI passthrough with VT-d, doesn't do graphics card passthrough....non of the KVM core developers have yet shown any interest in implementing this. A few non-core developers have tried to do it in the past 2 years, but none have succeded. A graphics card is *not* just a "regular" PCIe device.

As I wrote above: Use Xen if you want to do real passthrough of graphics cards, like the scenario you describe with multiple available graphics cards.

hrm, "yo"="to" "virtuous" should be virtio (phone didn't recognize virtio obviously).

I sure hope linux gets better virtualization. Cause when you set up dictators you have to have the technology to feed the people who hate them to their torture, jail, murder squads. Linux is fast becoming more evil than microsoft and apple put together. The internet is about to get really really stupid.

Software will allow 10 personas per user, replete with background , history, supporting details, and cyber presences that are technically, culturally and geographacilly consistent. Individual applications will enable an operator to exercise a number of different online persons from the same workstation and without fear of being discovered by sophisticated adversaries. Personas must be able to appear to originate in nearly any part of the world and can interact through conventional online services and social media platforms. The service includes a user friendly application environment to maximize the user's situational awareness by displaying real-time local information.
