      Last I tried with the hack it didn't work for Fedora 7 (though it bypassed the X 1.3 check).

          The problem lies inside the fglrx blob. Aticonfig for 8.38 will work and hopefully the fglrx_drv.so will be fixed in time as well.

                The open-source Radeon driver, but that will not work with the R500 X1000 series.

                    There is no Linux driver -- either fglrx or Radeon -- that supports the Radeon HD 2000 R600 series. You'll need to wait for that support as well, which should be soon.
