  • Extremely slow performance with all web browsers - driver issue?

I get very, very slow performance on this site:

This happens with all browsers I tried (Opera, Konqueror, Firefox). Can this be an issue with the open source Radeon driver? Something similar happens with Google Images, but this is more extreme.

well, there was some jerkiness at the beginning

but this only happened until some scripts (?) or the page had finished to load

    after that everything runs smoothly

I'm using adblock pro on chromium (+ javascript protection: about:flags -> XSS Auditor: Enable) and firefox (+ noscript)

so that might help with loading on some sites ...

Well, that's not the point. I merely wanted to know if someone with an NVidia or AMD binary blob can confirm so that we know if the driver is at fault.

Btw, I can wait all day at that site; the performance never gets any better.

for me it showed the above described behavior

and that was with latest mesa, libdrm and xf86-video-ati

on an Evergreen (5850) on 2.6.37

No problem with Intel and Firefox (but I use Adblock Plus and Flashblock).
          ## VGA ##
          AMD: X1950XTX, HD3870, HD5870
          Intel: GMA45, HD3000 (Core i5 2500K)

Seems to work fine here with xf86-video-ati on r6xx.

              Weird.

I have an HD4870 and using kernel 2.6.37, Mesa Git, libdrm Git, xf86-video-ati Git. Gallium driver.

Do you guys at least have speed problems in Google Images?

could be malware, maybe a virus

                    you mean http://www.google.com/images?hl=en...

                    ?

yeah - I get the following behavior:

when scrolling via my mousewheel (logitech microgear) it's (approximately) smooth for the height of my screen after that there seems to be a kind of artificial wall or something - meaning it doesn't scroll after that

I literally have to force it to scroll and after that mentioned length (e.g. the height of my screen) - there's another wall

                    so:

smooth scroll - wall - smooth scroll - wall - smooth scroll - bottom

                    strange behavior

it's NOT due to loading of the images
