The last RPG I played (and still playing) are NeverwinterNights & Eschalon Book I. Can anyone recommend a linux RPG that can be bought & downloaded online?

Sorry for the late reply, but you can try FreedroidRPG. It will give you some hours of fun.

You could try the recently released Planet Stronghold- it's not as deep as Eschalon or Neverwinter Nights, but closer to Freedroid with more story elements.
