  • VMWare 3D support a no-go on FOSS drivers?

Is there a way I can enable 3D support in VMWare 7 when using the r600c or r600g driver? When I try to enable it, VMWare aborts with "your 3D graphics system is not supported".

Various information on the net mentions that this is due to S3TC missing. So I installed libtxc_dxtn. This "worked" for r600c in that VMWare did not abort and tried to use 3D graphics. But it simply crashed as soon as 3D was enabled.

With r600g, libtxc_dxtn does not seem to have any effect; S3TC is still not available.

Of course it works like a charm with fglrx and the NVidia blob on another systems. The breakage is only there with the open driver.

This is on Mesa Git master, xf86-video-ati Git master, kernel 2.6.37.

Unfortunately S3TC does work only with R300g
