This isn't good, but after 2 drives I must conclude that running disk benchmarks against a ssd is cause for an early grave.
drive in question Crucial C300 1.8 inch 64 gb ssd
First disk formatted to ext4 then mounted to /media/ssd
during iozone run disk went into read only mode and was rma'd a day later.
2nd disk, Fedora F14 -i386 installed and used for 1.5 weeks
on installation/execution of PTS and iozone, disk developed several read error and soon failed thereafter.
Disk was returned for refund.
Moral: stick with old and slow + tested hardware.
