Could it be that there is a stray file left from fglrx installation which would mess up with mesa?

I really don't know whats happen here...
Sometimes my gdm cannot up. I must reboot and reboot and reboot and sometime it ups! I've noted that compiz dont load your effects anymore.

Seems that my installation gone dead!
Should I format and reinstall ubuntu? Or have something to do and fix it?

Before reinstalling could you try Ubuntu 10.10 LiveCD and see if hardware acceleration works.

Compiz doesn't start because you have no 3d acceleration. All the rendering is done in software, which is typically too slow.

I don't know why gdm is not starting. Did it work properly before?

I don't think that reinstalling is necessary. A fresh install will probably give you working 3d out of the box, but it can probably be fixed rather easily, if we can just figure out what is wrong.

                  Disregard my last post.

It looks like it works -- you have 3d acceleration. Congratulations!

If you get a kernel panic, the drm will switch to the console so you can view the panic.

                      Ok, I got the thing!!
Thank you to clarify to me it!

When I see the acceleration in LiveCD I know that some configuration that I made when ran some GL benchmarks for compare fglrx vs radeon on my hw.
So, I think that the stuff get broken, then I reinstalled the system
I want to share it with you:

I ran glmark2 and glmark2-es2. Two simple benchmark for opengl and opengl 2.0.
When I got in fglrx, the score point is 173 and with the radeon score point (with drm KMS and compiz off) are 1058 (yeah, almost 10 times greater than fglrx)
But now, with radeon driver default, the benchmark score is 178 (it drops a lot).

So, I want to know with you, guys experienced with ati cards:
1 - What additional plugins or I could add to my driver for
                      improve their performance?
2 - Is there some setting that I can do to improve
                      performance?
