Hi, I'm trying to install a Sapphire X1300 512Mb using Open SuSE 10.1, and the thing did not work. When a see the messages from the log in X I see 'Radeon X1300 detected' but the screen only blink. Using the newest driver downloaded from ati web was the same thing. I follow the installation instruction from ati and forums in suse about this. Results? nothing, zilch, nada!

With my old Nvidia 5700 system work without problems

What can I do?. Anyone have same problems?

    Seba

I am not a heavy SuSE/OpenSuSE user myself, however, here seems to be a reputable how-to guide for SuSE 10.1 and the proprietary ATI drivers: http://linux.wordpress.com/2006/05/1...-installation/ Have you tried these directions?

Do you have your X.Org log?

I haven't handled SuSE 10.1, but I would check out YaST and see what downloads I can get from Novell...

I know this does not help a whole lot, but X (through a module loaded by libvbe) probably had ran into a problem that caused it to abort as noted in these parts of the dump:

          0: /usr/X11R6/bin/X(xf86SigHandler+0x87) [0x80881f7]
          1: [0xffffe420]
          2: /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvbe.so(VBEGetModeInfo+0x2c) [0xb703595c]
          ...

          Fatal server error:
          Caught signal 11. Server aborting

X signal handler is the top of the stack. An unknown function follows it and then VBEGetModeInfo function from the libvbe.so library. So whatever the function VBEGetModeInfo needed failed to operate causing the signal 11 (I think it's either SIGSEGV or SIGABRT).

Question for everybody, is Xorg 6.9 supported in FGLRX? Maybe it would help if we knew what the library loaded at 0xffffe420 that failed was. Hope it contributes a tiny bit to this discussion.

mmm let me tell you something...

my first try to install the driver was using this: http://linux.wordpress.com/2006/05/1...-installation/

changing of course the part about ati-driver-installer-8.25.18 instead ati-driver-installer-8.24.8, well after that I give the command

            aticonfig --initial

I was thinking my xorg.conf see something like this:

            ...but I see this

            Section "Device"

            BusID "5:0:0"
            Driver "fglrx"
            Identifier "Device[0]"
            ...

            and nothing more....

figures this. The card is Sapphire X1300 not an original ATI X1300, then
the aticonfig cannot detect it in propper manner so the xorg.conf is not complete. Also the 512mb of ram was 'reduced' to 256mb in x.log

            Maybe that was what happen

            I'll keep trying

            Seba

It is interesting that your xorg.conf became like that.

Perhaps it's the revisions on aticonfig. Perhaps you should manually add the arguments on aticonfig.

                dark star,

I asked an ATI Linux representative about your SuSE 10.1 + fglrx issue. ATI hasn't been able to reproduce the problem, however, they are in the process of working with Novell on the matter.
