  • GoogleEarth broken by Catalyst 10.9?

    Running Ubuntu 10.4 with Catalyst 10.9 (hotfix version). I noticed googlearth crashes on startup:

    googleearth-bin: ../../src/xcb_io.c:452: _XReply: Assertion `!dpy->xcb->reply_data' failed.
    Google Earth has caught signal 6.

    From the crash log:

    Stacktrace from glibc:
    ./libgoogleearth_free.so(+0xd090b)[0xf771f90b]
    [0xf7778400]
    /lib32/libc.so.6(abort+0x182)[0xf5a42d52]
    /lib32/libc.so.6(__assert_fail+0xf8)[0xf5a38788]
    /usr/lib32/libX11.so.6(_XReply+0x322)[0xf4e701d2]
    /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1(AtiCallFGLComposite+0xf5)[0xf4d8088b]

    I haven't used googleearth for a while but I think it did work ok with Catalyst 10.8. Anyone else getting this problem?

    Are you running googleearth 5.1.3533? Version 5.2.1 were released a month ago.

      I'm running the one from Medibuntu which is 5.1.3533. Will try the new version. Actually seems to be lots of reports of similar issue on google's help forum. I'm thinking the problem may have nothing to do with fglrx.

            Ubuntu already have a prerelease version of Catalyst 10.10 in the repos for the Maveric release. If you are running Ubuntu 10.10 then you should be able to install Catalyst 10.10 via the System - Administration - Hardware drivers menu. Don't try and install Cat 10.9 in Maveric, it won't work with the Maveric Xorg-server version 1.9.
