No box to test just yet. It sounds like this card and the FOSS drivers are pretty lousy.

Hello I have installed ubuntu lucid on dell inspiron 6000 i noticed that latest version of ubuntu does not support ati x300 graphics card. is there any 3rd party drivers that i can install. Thanks in advance

I think I remember seeing mention of Compiz options that will handle screens bigger than the 3D engine's texture size (hardware) limit, which IIRC is 2048x2048 on X300.

Don't remember the details though... anyone ?

          Stupid edit limit.

Anyways, Karmic didn't work with fglrx either so this sounds like settings lost during the upgrade to Lucid rather than a driver issue. The post suggests that the user had the second monitor when running Karmic but the same hardware limit would have applied.
