The problem is that we don't know what "generic" means in this context. Is that what your xorg log says you are running ?

Can you maybe pastebin your xorg log ?

As far as what I mean by 'generic' it uses xserver-xorg-vesa drivers.

VESA is not the generic.. radeon is the generic for your card..

VESA is the low low low lowend lowend if no driver is found.


your only failure is you only test up to catalyst 10.9 but the catalyst for 10.10 is the 10.10 cataylst..

try
apt-get install fglrx
aticonfig --initial
