  • Today with last mesa git (4 october), on my rv620 chipset,

r600g is faster than r600C on openarena benchmark !

    r600g
    -----
    LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri_g/ openarena +exec anholt 2>&1 | egrep -e '[0-9]+ frames'
    840 frames 15.4 seconds 54.6 fps 5.0/18.3/59.0/6.9 ms

    r600c
    -----
    openarena +exec anholt 2>&1 | egrep -e '[0-9]+ frames'
    840 frames 17.7 seconds 47.5 fps 13.0/21.1/58.0/3.0 ms

it's 40% faster than yesterday, so maybe this commits

can explain the performance boost .

i'll try other games tomorrow (alienarena,nexuiz,...)

Which resolution do you define in your openarena test ?

      • Just tested, same as you, performance with r600g is now 2/3 of r600c with wy rv740 in arena test in 1680*1050 with high quality, was 1/10 one day ago...

        • now we just need color tiling support in r600g, and with 2d tiling enabled, it will be a way fast in q3

          • There is already color tiling support for R600g.

            • The last couple of replies sound great. I think I will switch to r600g when maverick will be out.

I hope that the speed of development won't decrease in the near future!

              • With the 10 minutes ago commits R600g works again, but it's still far from R600c.

                Openarena Very High quality @2560x1600

                ----- R600c + color tiling
                ----------- 92.3 fps

                ----- R600g + color tiling
                ----------- 75.5 fps

                • ^^ That's roughly what I'm seeing too. Slightly slower still.

                  • I and a few others were talking about that on #radeon and realized CPU might still play a significant part in the fps, possibly due to the drivers not being ready. And I personally haven't run r600c for a while. my claim was mostly that r600g is already fast enough to use if it works on the particular system. This is imo encouraging. It seems to hint the architectural decisions are considerably sane. (especially since there's still places from which to get quite a bit more of speed like texture tiling)

                      1024x768.(it's a laptop lvds scren).

i'll try on a bigger external monitor today (1920x1200).
