At some point, nvidia will HAVE to. If they don't, they will die. They might just die anyway -- AMD has overtaken them in discrete card sales, and they don't have the raw number of IGP's going out needed to keep them floating. Remember that the majority of people who buy computers are NOT enthusiasts who rip the cover off and change parts. The majority, BY FAR, couldn't even reinstall windoze. Discrete GPUs amount to a drop of water in the ocean.

If NVIDIA dies, it won't be because of closed drivers. Linux doesn't have enough market share. Even if it had enough market share, binary drivers aren't annoying enough to influence hardware buying decisions.

I think that the only way to get nvidia releasing any hardware documentation, is by buying AMD cards only. At some point they will realize that linux is an important market and needs to release some documentation.

That is not true. The binary vs open driver issue has had an ENORMOUS effect on hardware buying decisions on all platforms for which said drivers are applicable.
