Anyone have any idea which standard this conforms to if any? I bumped into it a while ago.

Oh You little, nasty torrenter :P
This is cropped FullHD movies recorded probably in cinemas where video camera records in FullHD but on top & bottom there are black bars & someone who wish to upload the movie just cut those black bars out of movie and there You have it - 1920x800
Oh and probably most of them are in mov (Quicktime) [bleeeeee] format.

AVC-1, actually. But anyway. Hmm, intriguing theory though I kinda suspect, the audio-visual quality looked too good to be recorded by a video camera. If it was captured by evil evil means, I'd rather suspect direct digital ripping of cinema material by a cinema employee. Not that I have it anymore.

Yeah, thats probably too. The differences between cinema and FullHD TV is aspect ratio.
        Here You have link:

Simply if You want not cropped picture You have to keep aspect ratio of it ( I'm not talking about black bars).
