Kubuntu 10.04 slows down with ATI HD5770

Hi,

I'm currently using Kubuntu 10.04 on my desktop computer with an ATI Radeon HD 5770. I installed the latest Catalyst 10.7 due to the very annoying slow window resizing bug.
Surprisingly this bug seemed to be fixed after I rebooted my pc, but as I continue working on the pc I can literally watch the windows getting slower and slower again til that point when the windows are slow and choppy again, everytime I am resizing them.

My question is if there is a known workaround for that bug?

No, and It's possible this bug also effects gnome also (only when compiz is disabled).

I used to work with gnome until last week on the same pc and didn't experience these problems. I don't want to change back to gnome nevertheless:-)
