Is there a workaround for the freeze (mpd and sysrq was still working) issues with Wine games? I tried to play Team Fortress 2 and CS 1.6 and the system froze after a few minutes of playing.

Before I do another mistake, what would you recommend for a linux HTPC:
Nvidia or intel?
knowing that I have decided to sell my ATI card and that I already have the intel HD Graphics included within my motherboard&CPU.
My constraint is or at least was that intel drivers didn't support interlace modes like 1080i

thanks and sorry to deviate from the initial subject.

I stayed away from ATI for almost ten years because of that one.
Testing 10.7, with 2DAccel on, apart from the black (or gray) window issue, so far I can tell Guild Wars through Wine exhibits the same behavior as with 10.6, text is often scrambled when entering a new area, displaying the map and going back to the game screen fixes that. The cause might be the same as for the window "fill" or "refresh" whatever it's called. On the bright side it's less severe than with 10.6
