Compiling a KMS Kernel for R800 cards

Looking to test out the bleeding edge open source radeon drivers, I got some help on #radeon, with these instructions:

But there is either something wrong with the r800 git repo, or I'm way too inexperienced with git. Can any one give me some guidance?
