I'm getting the same problem. If I refresh the page, it then tells me "thanks for taking the survey".

Some people still have ads surfing on the web?
I'm not sure many Linux users use IE...

The general perception over at reddit is that the advertisement on Phoronix has gotten out of hand. And as one of the redditors said:
There should be an article somewhere around here: http://imgur.com/sROl6

I'm just saying that it might not be good for business if that is the first thing a new visitor of Phoronix sees. Maybe you want to delay that full screen advertisement to the third time a user visits.

There were advertisements about me being not muscled enough (nerd cliche), me being fat (nerd cliche again), having lupus...

Now I see a stupid ad about winning a "BMW Serie 1". WTF?

Please put more relevant, serious and good taste advertisements.

Unfortunately the percentage of those using AdBlock/NoScript, etc has gotten out-of-hand as well. But if you will note like that "welcome screen" ad that you refer to, during the portion of the month that it runs, it is only shown at a maximum just once per day to each US user. That ad alone increases the Phoronix ad revenues by about 50% compared to normal, which helps offset the revenues lost to those blocking the ads.

In turn, ads like this are better for the reader in that it's a much greater incentive to continue pushing out new, interesting articles usually on a daily basis (as you may have noticed for the past few weeks) rather than every other day, more news, etc.

So if you're reading this, then, can you give us a link that works?
