Audio over DisplayPort

I was trying to look into whether or not it was possible to send audio over displayport using intels IGP, but information was scarce.
The few things I found was for sound over DisplayPort-HDMI, which isn't what i'm after.

I have a Clarkdale i5. Can't find anything mentioning displayport in aplay -l or aplay -L.

(My monitor does have an option to select sound from DisplayPort, and it's quiet no matter what i choose with aplay).

So, whats the deal. Is it not supported by hardware? Drivers? Help!

The intel-gfx mailing list is a good place to ask this, I don't think there are any Intel developers who regularly respond on Phoronix.
