10.4 and Lucid: ultra-slow alt+mmb window resizing and alt-tab

Is this new or just a manifestation of the ageold composition bugs in fglrx? I managed to install 10.4 from ati.com after the upgrade process didn't manage it.

Now desktop effects are enabled but certain operations are ass-slow. Namely as title implies: Alt-middle-mouse-button window resize, alt-tabbing

Workarounds?
