    I'm wondering how can I completely remove this driver so i can perform a clean installation. I'll edit this post to paste the link for my /var/log/Xorg.0.log in a little while.
    I've always used /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh

    Works for me.

      I managed to uninstall the old driver, but failed to install the new one - even though patch install ok.

        If you use Debian or Ubuntu or of couse Kanotix with 2.6.33 but not Xserver 1.7:

        prepare:

        sudo -i
        rm -f /etc/X11/xorg.conf*
        dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

        use then my script:

            You have to wait a bit - most likely to the U 10.04 release. Or just a card from a competitor

              I use xorg-x11 7.4-r1 and xorg-server 1.6.5-r1 .Gentoo repository had ver. 7.5 marked as a unstable but i don`t see any reason to install that.
              Did you remove it from kernel section :
              Device drivers--->Graphic support---> < > /device/AGP
              Device drivers--->Graphic support---> < > Direct Rendering Manager ?

              @Seebs
              So if I don't see "smp_processor preemptible", I don't have to rebuild my kernel, right? (I ask because I'm getting annoying hangs sporadically with the driver.)
              ..just check these options.I had exactly the same problems with 10.1 drivers.

                both AGP and DRM built as kernel modules

                  Upgrade xorg to 7.5 and ati drivers 10.2 compiled fine but X didn`t start corectly.I got errors : Failed to load /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so.
                  So,I suppose ati 10.2 doesn`t support xorg 7.5.For now, try to downgrade X`s ver.

                    Code:
                    fglrx: module license 'Proprietary. (C) 2002 - ATI Technologies, Starnberg, GERMANY' taints kernel.
                    Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint
                    fglrx: Unknown symbol __cmpxchg_wrong_size
                    Hi @all
                    it's from dmesg.
                    in fglrx-install.log i found that the fglrx.ko is building, but however it ends with an error.
                    any ideas?
