  • Can I change display refresh rate values in console?

When using KMS, the screen defaults to a refresh rate of 60Hz. Once I log into my graphical session I can change it, but when I'm on a console it stays at 60Hz. Problem is that the old LCD I'm using on that particular machine does not like anything other than its default of 75Hz when using the native resolution, so I get a lot of distortion and noise on the display. Is there any way of changing the refresh rate.

    Have you tried fbset?

That seems to be able to do what I need. Thanks. Will test when I get home to the old scrapbox. Fbset doesn't seem to be available by default though (Ubuntu); is there a tool I can use that's immediately available?

It seems strange that Ubuntu doesn't have the "fbset" package since Debian (Lenny) does.

Maybe it does. I simply checked Kubuntu, which does seem to be missing several packages that the default Ubuntu install has.
