Default AMD Catalyst 10.1 Driver For Linux Released

Phoronix: AMD Catalyst 10.1 Driver For Linux Released

AMD has done their monthly roundabout and released the ATI Catalyst 10.1 Linux driver. Found in the Catalyst 10.1 driver change-log is "Ubuntu 9.10 production support", even though AMD seeded them with an unreleased Catalyst driver since September and the official Catalyst releases since October have worked just fine with Ubuntu 9.10...

Might as well start. Fedora is one of the most popular distros out there. How can supporting 5 months old xserver be so hard?

    Default karmic installation

Did someone succeed to install it on Karmic?

    I run:
    sh ati-driver-installer-10-1-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/karmic

And then after a lot of warnings it fails because of not finding libatiuki.so.1, see bellow. It was also downloading and installing some packages after the execution.

    ...
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: symbol XFreeFontInfo used by debian/xorg-driver-fglrx/usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 found in none of the libraries.
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: 21 other similar warnings have been skipped (use -v to see them all).
    dpkg-shlibdeps: error: couldn't find library libatiuki.so.1 needed by debian/xorg-driver-fglrx/usr/lib/xorg/modules/linux/libfglrxdrm.so (ELF format: 'elf64-x86-64'; RPATH: '').
Note: libraries are not searched in other binary packages that do not have any shlibs or symbols file.
To help dpkg-shlibdeps find private libraries, you might need to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
    dh_shlibdeps: dpkg-shlibdeps returned exit code 2
    make: *** [binary-predeb-IMPL/xorg-driver-fglrx] Error 1
dpkg-buildpackage: error: fakeroot debian/rules binary gave error exit status 2
    Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install.C0AWnB

Isn't that the price that you pay for being at the forefront with fedora?

    Same here.
Now, that's what you call "production support"...

That crap breaks dpkg-configure on karmic. Don't try to install it.
