  • Catalyst 10.1 "faster 2D"?

    According to this:

Gaming monitor guides, reviews, and how-to's - all in one easy to navigate place that makes your monitor research that much easier.

Catalyst 10.1 will provide "Improvement of 2D performance in Linux".

One thing that jumps out of this though, is:

"AMD has supplied us with a document giving information"

How come Phoronix doesn't get such "documents"?

Ubuntu 9.10/opensuse 11.2 support? Does this mean the latest kernel is supported?

Both of those distros use 2.6.31 kernels.

This might mean anything from "They improved a common codepath a little" to "They finally implemented EXA".

My guess would be the first, possibly obsoleting the no_backfill hacks. There has been some talk about this, and bridgman more or less confirmed that they were doing something about it.

Probably because Michael likes NVIDIA more nowadays. ;-)

According to behardware.com information, the only improvements for Linux Catalyst for the next months are:
          - Improvement of 2D performance in Linux
          - Support for Ubuntu 9.10 and OpenSUSE 11.2
          Really, only that?

The linked article actually says "AMD has supplied us with a document giving information on the improvements that will be implemented over the course of the next months in Catalyst drivers:"

I don't think it mentions the Cat 10.1 release anywhere, does it ?

                course of the next months
                Up to 6 months then?

                Edit:

                One feature per month maybe...

January - Support for DisplayPort Audio (already in the 9.12 hotfix). (which means no real update this month).
February - Improvement of 2D performance in Linux.
March - Support for Ubuntu 9.10 and OpenSUSE 11.2. (New kernel).
                ...

I doubt it was intended to be that specific
