Reading fan speed on socket AM3 board in linux?

I have an msi 790fx-gd70 and can read temp from the cpu and gpu, but not fan speeds. At least not out of the box ubuntu 9.10 and fedora 12. Laptops do show fan speeds out of the box. Is there a way to do this without a different motherboard?

Dont want to get another board till the next chipset comes out to see if it has an iommu.
