FFMpeg Mpeg 4 yes it does. As far as FFV1/ogg support goes it can be done using a openCL solution if needed and the motivation/demand is warranted.

i think dirac in cuda is droped !
    Still works fine.

Again supply vs demand. Nothing you have mentioned specifically eliminates nvidia solutions.

Did you really watch XVID/DIVX over vdpau once? I would not consider that working...
h264 (DivX 6), mpeg 2 and wmv videos are near 0 cpu overhead here with my 9800gt. Maybe your hardware is an older generation like mine coz as far as I know some formats are not accelerated with them. I can't confirm dirac because I don't have any sample with dirac encoding (I think). Can anyone show me a place to download one?

      And Q: dream on.

Not with my GT220 with mplayer svn, could you test that please?

test what? mplayer or GT220? Sorry I don't use mplayer XBMC forever.

who can confirm that it is fully hw accellerated with xbmc? you can use software codecs too with vdpau output with mplayer.

I do it with quitting xbmc and within 60 seconds looking at system monitor cpu history. Any better method to test it?

                i only know that

mplayer -vo vdpau -vc ffodivxvdpau movie

uses full hw accelleration and that really looks ugly with my testfiles.

Well on my systems generic divx/xvid files need 3-5% cpu usage even without accelleration, but some may have got slower systems like atom. There something like ion2 could have got vp4, but currently it does not work correctly.

Did you try with high resolution wmv files such as this one?

Nice find, does not work with vaapi/xvba with a 3450 (did not test 4550). Maybe because it is not pure vc1, when you test with nvidia (pure svn) you see:

Selected video codec: [ffwmv3vdpau] vfm: ffmpeg (FFmpeg WMV3/WMV9 (VDPAU))

                      files working with vaapi/xvba use:

Selected video codec: [ffvc1vdpau] vfm: ffmpeg (FFmpeg WVC1 (VDPAU))

                      It works with vaapi/nvidia btw.

                      When you compare vainfo:

                      Nvidia:

                      VAProfileMPEG2Simple : VAEntrypointVLD
                      VAProfileMPEG2Main : VAEntrypointVLD
                      VAProfileMPEG4Simple : VAEntrypointVLD
                      VAProfileMPEG4AdvancedSimple : VAEntrypointVLD
                      VAProfileH264Main : VAEntrypointVLD
                      VAProfileH264High : VAEntrypointVLD
                      VAProfileVC1Simple : VAEntrypointVLD
                      VAProfileVC1Main : VAEntrypointVLD
                      VAProfileVC1Advanced : VAEntrypointVLD

                      ATI:

                      VAProfileMPEG2Simple : VAEntrypointIDCT
                      VAProfileMPEG2Main : VAEntrypointIDCT
                      VAProfileH264High : VAEntrypointVLD
                      VAProfileVC1Advanced : VAEntrypointVLD
